Shah Rukh Khan is a rage on screen but Monday night's incident at Kalindi Kunj in northeast Delhi proved he could have a similar effect on his fans off screen too.
Hundreds of fans gathered at the inauguration of an amusement park in the area on Monday went berserk when the Badshah Khan failed to turn up for the event. When the crowd swelled and did not heed to police warnings, the cops resorted to light cane charge to control the mob. A man, however, got entangled with a live wire and suffered burns.
The police said apart from that man nobody else was injured in the incident.
"Shah Rukh had to come to inaugurate the Delhi Rides amusement park but the owner did not have police permission to conduct the function. When we came to know about it we cordoned off the area. Though SRK did not turn up actress Malaika Arora Khan came for the event. She also went away after a few minutes and angry fans went on a rampage. The police tried to calm them down and later resorted to light cane charge," said a senior police officer.
He said the owner, Iman Ali Khan, took permission from UP police while he had to inform Delhi Police before organising the inauguration function. Khan refused to comment.
Later at a press conference at a five-star hotel in the city, Shah Rukh said he was sorry that he could not reach the venue. He assured that he would visit the amusement park along with his children "soon"
