MUMBAI: Ra.One could create a record at the box-office, say trade pundits who predict that the first-day collections could touch Rs 22 crore. "The Hindi version will collect more than Rs 20 crore, and if one adds the collections of the Tamil and Telugu versions, it will go up to Rs 22 crore," says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
The Rs 145-crore film was released on Wednesday in 3,200 screens across India. Every multiplex has about 18 shows a day, and for this reason alone the collections should be very substantial. "The fact that ticket prices are upwards of 20 per cent from the regular price point will also add to the collections," says Vishal Anand, head of operations, Fun Cinema.
"One more factor which works in Ra.One's favour is that it has been released at a time when there are four consecutive holidays in most parts of the country."
Not everyone is sure about the holiday factor. Some in the trade feel the film should have been released the day after Laxmi Puja, which is traditionally not good for business since the puja takes place in the evening. Some exhibitors say the evening shows on the first day did take a dip because of the puja time, but expected the night shows to make up the loss.
Salman Khan's Bodyguard, which was released in 2,700 screens across India, was the last film to create a record first-day collection of Rs 21 crore. "I am not sure if Ra.One will beat Bodyguard's first-day collections, but it will break Bodyguard's record in five days," says Delhi-UP distributor Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts.
"Bodyguard collected about Rs 80 crore in the first five days-my estimate is that Ra.One will collect between Rs 90 crore and Rs 100 crore."
Film is widely liked by the general public for its cool special visual effects and core Indian story at the heart of the movie..
Looking at the public first day response for Ra.One , Ra.One is set to an excellent weekend ahead.
